Big on Big

Sponge Bob says this, I guess. When asked what it means, N sort of shrugs his shoulders. But, I think it describes 2012 pretty well.

I think every kid in MN needs to know how to swim and skate so that has been our focus this year.

>;Starting 2012, swimming terrified N. . . absolutely sacred him to death. But, with 12 solid months of lessons, he is making great progress. He is getting the fundamentals down and actually leaping into the water (when asked, not recklessly).

>;We started ice skating lessons a year ago as well – wow. From watching him fall and not being able to get up (heart breaking) to (on the cusp of) stroking and full backwards, it has just been neat to see. Hockey basics are next.

>;Soccer wasn’t such a big hit, but there were some bigger kids. We’ll give it another shot this year. But, he loves the jersey and shorts (not to mention the medal I won’t let him wear because he refused to go to the last few sessions).

>;Church has been bothersome. We aren’t consistent attendees and hates being separated from us during Sunday school. We had a big break through yesterday – he sat at the front of the church by himself for the children’s sermon (we usually have to sit with him). He raised his hand and volunteered to be weighed in front of everyone. He was proud to weigh 48 lbs and even got applause from the congregation! He gave them a look like – hey, acknowledge this! Then, I took him to Sunday school. He SO did not want to do this. It was a tough parting but I can see the maturity. He asked for 3 hugs, wiped tear from his eye and walked on in. (I almost cried.) Of course I was quite anxious during the service and pretty much did the fast walk to pick up. He had a big smile and was all good. Big on big.

We have been having a great fall – I am calling it the big age of belief. Halloween is the bomb and Santa is a big deal – fun

First sentence and a plea

N handed me his writing from today. In addition to the standard:

There was also a play date plea (Luke come with me Mom)

5 year old treasures

Recently, Nathanael has been enjoying toys in a truly imaginative play way. He also has treasures that he tends to bring place to place. Today, I caught 5 year of boy treasures all loaded up in the back of his gator so there were accessible at all times.
