one of nathanael’s great points of pride is his ability to zip up his coat. he worked on it for months and has been quite consistent with it for some time now. i share his pride because well, let’s admit it, zipping up a coat in MN is a very important skill.
well, as winter coats (made in China) are want to do after a bit of wear, the zippy is a bit funky and therefore, not as easy to zip up. last night we had tears of genuine frustration because it’s just too tought right now (i struggle with it as well). this morning, another battle (while mommy was trying desperately to get out of the house). today failure was summed up as a very sad, very beat myself up “i can’t do things.” yes, the one thing became a universal statement of identity. my heart sank. we discussed how things sometimes break or are challenging but to not reflect our ability to “do things.”
i’m not sure he understood me but boy, do i understand.
