Christmas

We had a very good Christmas and it was wonderful to see how Nathanael has developed over the past year. I’ve been able to take some time off and it’s just been fantastic to spend some quality time with Nathanael. Since he’s beyond the stage of any moment is a potential moment of doom and he’s able to engage and play with toys, it’s much more fun. I remember about 8 months ago, he loved Thomas the Train but every session w/Thomas ended with tears and frustration. N couldn’t hook the tracks or trains together and what he was envisioning in his head to happen, he just couldn’t make his fingers do. And, he would not accept any help so pretty soon it was trains across the room – so frustrating for him!

Anyway, back to Christmas – we cut down a tree right after Thanksgiving. It was a dry year so the tree is quite nice but not very strong. We love cutting down the tree and we hope to be able to do it every year. This year, unlike last, it wasn’t too cold but we still are quite quick at picking the tree out!

The program at school was terrific. The toddlers had a few songs planned but as soon as they got up there, they just stared at the crowd. Pretty cute!

We spent Christmas eve at mom and dad’s. N loved opening the presents and was quite good at it. He would unwrap them and then immediately scream “open! open! open!” I can see from his point of view, it’s not enough to see the box, one must touch & play with all that is in the box!

Santa came Christmas morning and Nathanael loved that also. By now, he was a real pro at the opening of the gifts. We tried to go to church at his school but the service was canceled due to the bad weather. Of course, we didn’t check before hand and got all ready/drover over there for nothing, but it was pretty out.

The weather has been great. There has been a great deal of snow but it’s not too cold so it’s fun to go out. We got Nathanael a sled to pull him around on. Now we just need to find a hill that’s toddler sized.

We plan to spend New Years with the Andersons and we love that! Nathanael, Noah, and Aiden will get to spend some quality time together while the parents enjoy some quality adult beverages!

Holiday

We received some snow this week – not as much as the East coast but enough for a white Christmas.

We just did Santa Clause – not a complete melt down but certainly not a happy guy.  He was looking at me the whole time.  We prepped him so that helped but N was still pretty unsure.  This week we told him that we would be visiting Santa and Santa will ask him what he wants.  When asked, he tells us that he wants “cake” for Christmas!  I think we can get N a cake – no problem!

Nathanael is picking up words right and left.  At times, it really cracks me up.  He just repeated to me about 6 times “Aargh Matey!”  How can one not love that?
