Observations

Nathanael turned 14 months last week.  It’s incredibly bittersweet.  We love watching him develop and grow.  But, I already miss the Nathanael of July.

*  He’s starting to say hi again.  He stopped for a while and now has decided it’s cool again.  He’s yet to say Daddy again but he did whisper it very sweet once in August – he said “hi daddy” is this soft, sweet, little voice.  I think he said mom last night.  When he’s very tired and nothing can make him happy and he’s totally on edege, he seems to say “mom” during his pathetic yet forceful crys.  It’s hard to tell if he’s actually saying mom or not.  It sort of breaks my heart – he’s just so out of sorts.

*  He’s growing.  I bought some 12 month outifts that already are seeming too small.  How can that be?

*  He’s physically stronger.  He has so much more control of his limbs and he can open drawers etc.

*  He’s a very good eater, except green vegetables.  He will eat almost anything and lets us know when he’s done.

*  He loves to crawl up and down the stairs.  You have to be careful because he is very steady and sure about the climbing so you think you don’t have to watch too closely.  But, everyone once in a while, he loses his sure footing and you have to be there or it would be ugly.

*  He still has a winner smile.  People melt when he smiles at them.  It’s hard to have a care in the world when he’s giving you the Nathanael grin.

First extended trip

This is my first extended trip for work (3 days) and it’s been mixed.  Joe is incredibly thoughtful and leaves me a message each morning about how the morning went.  It gives me a great deal of peace of mind.  I really miss them both and I so I have an (ideal) vision of how it’s going for them.  (I just see puppy dogs and happy baby/daddy and life is never really like that.)

Joe leaves for China on Sunday for two weeks and that will be a real trial for me!

First day of day care . . .
