What A Day

I think it’s going to take a long time for the events of today to sink in, but Nathanael Elmer is currently asleep in his crib (while his dad snores like bear in bed).

The transition from the foster family was emotionally draining and we hurt very deeply for them.  It’s incredibly difficult to put into words the experience but it’s clear they have loved and treated Nathanael like their son and giving him up was incredibly hard.  I can not even begin to articulate how fortunate we are to have them in our lives and have our son have such an amazing beginning.

Nathanael crashed after the hand off and then spent most of the afternoon pretty shut down, in a daze.  The way I look at it, our dog gets sick at the kennel so even if child can’t articulate what they are feeling, they feel it.  By dinner we got a few smiles so that felt great.  But clearly he’s in a very fragile mode.

Mom and dad have had a great time and they are as gaga over Nathanael as the rest of us.

I’ll get pictures later.

    Hello!

How surreal to see my name in your blog!

Even down to the “..ael” spelling!

    Congratulations on your adoption!

Might I ask how you decided to choose such a fine name?

    Have a great day.

    Nathanael Elmer
